A peek behind the curtain - How I invest my money
A common question I’ve been asked is “what are your returns? Do you have examples of the portfolios you invest in?” This is a tough question to answer for a couple reasons:
In this world of money and returns - many advisors talk a lot - but few disclose their returns.
As someone looking for an advisor and hoping you can trust them with your money - it's difficult to know whether they will invest your money properly.
It's difficult for advisors to share with you what your investment experience could look like and most individual advisors will not have a track record or proof of audited returns to use as marketing material for a variety of (good) regulatory reasons. This often leads however to clients being unable to know whether the advisor they are signing up with is being truthful in the claims they are making and can often lead to disappointment later on.
Aravind attempts to explain some of the reasons for those rules but also offers a peek into his own portfolio as part of an attempt at transparency. He shares some details about his holdings, his actual returns, and also briefly touches upon some bad investment decisions he has made.
He also dives into why not all clients will have the same investment experience and discusses why his portfolio doesn't automatically constitute a "recommendation to invest like he does".
